Let’s Talk About: Vampire Survivors Player Party Event

Vampire Survivors! This is a game that I find that everybody recommends. When we attended WASD Live in March, the team from poncle were there showcasing their game and we finally had the chance to sit down and see what everybody had been raving about for months, and we were not disappointed. After the event, we very quickly racked up our hours in the game on both Steam and mobile version of Vampire Survivors.

Primarily, we are both Nintendo Switch players, so when it was announced that Vampire Survivors was coming to the console, alongside a couch co-op update, we were both very excited to sink our teeth into the game together.

Mow down thousands of night creatures and survive until dawn! Vampire Survivors is a gothic horror casual game with rogue-lite elements, where your choices can allow you to quickly snowball against the hundreds of monsters that get thrown at you.

On Wednesday 2nd August, myself and Si were given the amazing opportunity to attend the Press & Creators slot for the very first Vampire Survivors event which was being held in London. Needless to say we were both absolutely ecstatic to be have been invited and for the opportunity to try out the brand new Co-Op Mode.

We both hopped on the train from Norwich early on the Wednesday, and made our way to London. The event didn’t start until 4pm but we decided to make the most out of a day in London and to take a look around Camden. I hadn’t visited Camden in around a decade, and Si had never visited so we thought it would be good to experience something new and fresh in London instead of visiting our usual places.

The weather in London was pretty bad that day, and we were able to shelter from the rain the majority of the time while in the markets. Eventually though, it was time to make our way to Shoreditch, where the event was being held.

Upon arriving at the venue we were instantly greeted and introduced to a few members of the team at poncle and Future Friends. It was lovely to have been able to meet members of the team who we haven’t spoken to before, and also say hello to the team who we met at WASD. We were both given little Vampire Survivors goody bags, alongside a choice of a t shirt. They even made Barbie inspired VS shirts, and they were amazing. The goody bag contained a Red Reaper pin badge, some stickers, Randomazzo card set and a kinder egg.

The Press and Creator slot was around 2 hours long, starting at 4pm and ending at 6pm. In that time we played (and won) two co-op sessions. One with just myself and Si, and our second game included an online friend of ours who we met through WASD called GeekyN8, another wonderful person and content creator.

The venue where the event was hosted was called Platform Shoreditch, and it was honestly an amazing place to have held this Player Party. The venue makes its own pizza and had a whole array of video game themed cocktails which were so delightful. I picked a cocktail called Rainbow Road (Mario Kart Reference) while Si had a Burnout Martini (Burnout Reference). It was probably one of the best gaming bar venues I have had the pleasure of attending, and highly recommend it to anyone who is in the area.

The co-op feature is a very welcome addition to Vampire Survivors. You really have to work together as a team, as the upgrades take in turns per player and you want to make sure you don’t take an upgrade that would benefit another person of your team. As it is couch co-op all players are visible on the screen, so you really want to stick together to make it work and not stray off where the camera won’t follow you.

There are opportunities that if a member of your team dies, as long as the rest of the team survives, they can eventually respawn, so nobody is sitting out from a 30 minute session if someone accidentally dies early on.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the new update and cannot wait for it to launch on the 17th August. Vampire Survivors is also available to pre-order now on Nintendo Switch ready for the launch, alongside both DLC’s.

A huge thank you to the teams over at Future Friends and Poncle for inviting us to the event.
