Joining the Sky: Children of the Light Community and World Records

Sky: Children of the Light is an open world indie game developed and published by thatgamecompany, also known for Journey, Flower and Flow. Sky first came onto the scene in 2019 and has now racked up over 260 million downloads on mobile, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

I started my Sky journey in 2021 when the game was released on the Nintendo Switch and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game. I love the vibes the game gives me and the concept is very similar to Journey. Anything close to Journey will always be loved by me as it is one of my all time favourite games.

Hold hands and take flight in an unforgettable social adventure together with loved ones. Explore the seven realms of this beautifully-animated kingdom with other players where compassion, community and wonder greet you at each turn. Create enriching memories as you solve mysteries, make friends, and help others along the way.

During Gamescom 2023, thatgamecompany hosted a Sky: Children of the Light booth for members of the public to try out the game, and to also advertise that during Gamescom they will be attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for Most Users in a Concert-Themed Virtual World.

I hadn’t personally played Sky in about a year, as many other games releasing and taking my attention, but I decided it was time for me to return to the world of Sky and experience the AURORA concert, and help make history.

Jumping back in again was a lovely experience. The world was full of people and it wasn’t difficult to find my way to the concert at all. When I arrived at the concert hall I even saw some of my old Sky friends who are still playing which was lovely to see.

I arrived about 10 minutes before the concert started which was plenty of time for me to run over and say hello to some friends and to find a good place for me to sit to watch the concert. It was amazing to see so many people in the room all ready to experience the concert together, and to help break a record.

I don’t want to spoil the concert as I really recommend people take part and experience the concert for themselves as it is an amazing journey, travelling across the whole of world. I had never listened to AURORA’s music beforehand, but I can say after experiencing the concert you can definitely find some AURORA songs on my Spotify playlist, so even if you don’t know the artist, I still recommend it.

And on August 25th, Sky: Children of the Light made history! We all helped to set the new Guinness World Record title for the “Most Users in a Concert-Themed Virtual World.”

Jumping back into the world again after a long time was really lovely. Since I last played there has been so many more additions to the game and I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the new areas and features. I have slotted Sky: Children of the Light back into my daily routine.

If you enjoyed Journey then I highly recommend you try Sky: Children of the Light. With the game updating frequently, and the ability to meet and play with multiple other users, the world has a lot to offer. Plus the game is free to play on iOS, Android, PS4/PS5 and Nintendo Switch, with its launch on Steam coming sometime this year.

You also have until September 3rd 2023 to experience the AURORA Encore Concert before she goes. It is about an hour long but I thoroughly recommend the journey.

Sky has officially broken the world record for Most Users in a Concert Themed Virtual World. The achievement was verified and validated by the Guinness World Records, bringing Sky and its community into the history books. Over 10,000 players simultaneously shared a magical, musical adventure on August 25th, 2023. Congratulations to the Sky community 👏 👏
