Pretty Princess: Magical Garden Island – An Animal Crossing Clone or Something More?
Pretty Princess: Magical Garden Island is a cutesy simulation game created by Nippon Columbia and published by Aksys Games. Play as your very own Princess and visit the land of Carrot Isle with your friends. However once you arrive you notice that the island is now deserted, so it is now up to you to revitalise this deserted island.
Cultivate crops and raise livestock while exploring the island to collect resources and create goods in this fantasy farming simulation game, set in a cute European fantasy world.
In Pretty Princess: Magical Garden Island you are tasked with making Carrot Isle a better place by gathering items so you can create new buildings, resources, and decorations. You can also buy seeds and plant crops to create your very own faming area.
Thankfully you don’t have to wait too long for crops to grow, materials to be crafted or foraging items to respawn. The process is rather streamlined and speedy, which is good for less patient players and means you don’t have to wait days for items to respawn like in other similar games. From what I can tell, there is also no item limit to what you can hold which can really help with mass crafting.
Graphically, the game is adorable, although I feel that a lot of the game and the assets look eerily similar to Animal Crossing. The game also has no day or night cycle, so the game is constantly bright, colourful and vibrant, and obviously everything is “princess themed” so it can be difficult to theme your island to anything else other that pretty and pink which may turn a lot of people off who like to have full creative power.
However, while Pretty Princess: Magical Garden Island seems like a bright and pink alternative to Animal Crossing, the game can sometimes feel a little bit generic and a grind in comparison. Despite this, the gameplay itself has highly addictive elements and the graphics are aesthetically pleasing, that I think if you are a cosy gaming fan this could be a game you enjoy.
If you are into games like Animal Crossing but have burn out and want a close alternative that looks good and actually plays well, then I recommend giving Pretty Princess: Magical Garden Island a look into.
I played Pretty Princess: Magical Garden Island on Nintendo Switch with a review copy from Numskull Games. The game is available now on Nintendo Switch.
