Let’s Take A Look At – Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery
You’re a detective, and a frog, and it’s time to solve a mystery.
Today I have the pleasure of talking about one of the quirkiest and humour-filled cosy games that I have played in a while called Frog Detective. The Frog Detective series consists of three games with Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery bringing all three cases from the trilogy together. Developed by Worm Club, Frog Detective is a trilogy you won’t want to miss out on.
In these games you play as Frog Detective, who is both a frog and a Detective. You are handed a new case from your supervisor, and you head to the scene with your trusty magnifying glass to search for clues.
The bulk of your time with the Frog Detective series will involve talking to a wonderful cast of quirky animal characters and exploring while searching for clues and items that will help you progress with the story. The gameplay itself consists of you finding items that each character needs, and then trading them for something else as the mystery of the case unravels itself. It is a very stress free experience and a great way to relax.
The silly vibes is really what makes the Frog Detective games feel special. The cases themselves are pretty trivial but feel playful. For example, in Frog Detective 1: The Haunted Island inhabitants of the island believe that where they live is haunted by ghosts, but very quickly you can see that the case is probably more basic than that.
Honestly, I don’t really want to spend too much time talking about the actual cases as that is the main charm of the game, and I really would not want to spoil any aspects of the story. With each game of the trilogy focusing on its own case, there isn’t room for diversity in how the stories play out.
The games feel more evolved as you progress with the trilogy, with each game adding a new mechanic to play around with. Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard adds a notebook, which you get to decorate with cute stickers! The game automatically write information about the characters you meet and it is a helpful tool for keeping track of what each character needs.
Frog Detective 3: Corruption at Cowboy County introduces a scooter which allows you to get around and access harder to reach places. The game is set in a slightly bigger environment, so the scooter really helps you get around faster. The scooter really makes traversing just so much more fun!
Each game/case in the Frog Detective series can take around 45 minutes to an hour to complete. The games are full of silly writing and characters that are filled to the brim with charm and humour. If that sounds like your idea of a good time then this trilogy is the perfect way to spend a few hours with.
I played Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery on Nintendo Switch with a gifted copy from Worm Club on KeyMailer. The game is available now on Steam, Playstation, Xbox and PC. While my copy was gifted, my review remains unbiased.
