A First Look At: KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes Of Desire!
It’s time for a Visual Novel Quest with a twist! Join Kazuma, a reincarnated adventurer, and spend turbulent days with his unfortunate party members. Prepare for waifus, dress-up and resource management and get ready for an Isekai comedy that’s out of this world!
So, this is going to be a bit of a strange review as I will be talking about a visual novel game based on an anime I have not seen. KonoSuba is both an anime and a light novel set in a fantasy world with MMORPG elements. I mostly know of this anime as my brother is a big fan and has been begging me to watch it for years, so I decided to take a step into the world of KonoSuba via the new game published by PQube.
This is also not going to be a review of the full game of KONOSUBA – Love For These Clothes Of Desire! and I will only be talking about the first chapter of the game as per request of the developer, however the first chapter is roughly around 2 hours in length and gives a good view on what this visual novel is about.
Playing KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes Of Desire! felt very similar to watching an episode of an anime. Now don’t get me wrong, I haven’t watched KonoSuba, but I have watched anime, so I definitely understand the vibe of what is going on here. In terms of gameplay, KonoSuba mainly consists of visual novel gameplay, so be prepared for a lot of reading.
The basic premise of the story is that the main character Kazuma and his party of friends come across a cursed stone tablet that can create amazing clothes. However, the tablet can also curse them, one at a time, inverting their personality. This can lead to some fun interactions between Kazuma and his party, and are one of the major things that makes KonoSuba so fun.
Alongside the visual novel sections, you can also give your party jobs to do. Each job can earn you some money and items, with each character in your party having preferences for certain jobs. These jobs can also affect story progression so it is worth taking your time looking at them as there is a fair amount you can unlock with a decent amount of gameplay unlocked with it.
With this being a visual novel story game, there isn’t much more I can really say without giving away the story, however I can recommend that any fan of the anime will enjoy KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes Of Desire! I even think if you are a fan of fun anime and enjoy visual novels and haven’t watched KonoSuba, you can find some enjoyment from meeting and learning these new group of characters.
I played KONOSUBA on Nintendo Switch with a gifted copy from PQube. The game will be available on Steam, Nintendo Switch and Playstation on February 8th 2024. While I received my copy early, my review remains unbiased.
